This Monday and Tuesday, I had AP physics, Ella had AP Bio, Ella and I had AP French, and Zoe had AP Calc. We didn't meet up for those two days because the tests were all staggered timewise. For me, on those two days, I mostly did some more research into the kinds of music that Jason and Kelsey like - self described as "sad lumberjack music" and "alternative punk," respectively. I also started thinking about the instrumentation I want for each theme, as well as plunking out some preliminary melodies on the piano. Hopefully by the end of the week I'll have fully fleshed out themes to work with!
On Wednesday morning, Zoe had AP Lang, so Ella and I worked independently in the morning. I continued working on the score. In the afternoon, Zoe drove us all down to Akron, where we worked as a group on storyboarding the documentary and pinning down specific parts of the interviews that we wanted to incorporate. Then, we went to Ohio Shakespeare festival to interview our third and final person, Mark Stoffer. He's done a bunch of theater work in a bunch of different positions, like being an actor, stage manager, director, lighting designer, scenic designer, scenic builder, sound designer, electrician, etc. His perspective was really interesting because he is older than Jason and Kelsey, and he's definitely had the most experience out of the three people. Again, I was inspired by how he could maintain a day job working in IT and have that be pretty financially comfortable, and then also pursue his theatrical and creative passions and balance both things equally. I also identified a bit with his own self-description of having both an engineering side and a creative side; I definitely feel the same way, in that I love to enhance my creative endeavors with mathematical elements, and that I have both a technical and creative mindset.
