Blog #1 - Pre-Project

For my Hawken Project, I'm making a documentary with Ella Kolk and Zoe Rodriguez about making a living off of professional theater in the Northeast Ohio area. All three of us have been heavily involved with HPS in our time at Hawken, so we're pretty well versed in the actual process of making theater. We don't know as much about theater as a career, so we're hoping in our documentary to shed some light on what it's like as a professional as well as to offer some tips for people looking to go into theater in their future.

Our essential question: How do individuals in the Northeast Ohio area make a living in the theatre industry?

We hope to answer this question by interviewing professionals around Cleveland about their experience and advice.

My role in this documentary is specifically focused towards the scoring of the film (but obviously we're all working together on interviews and storyboarding). I've scored one (very) short video in the past, and I've written a good number of songs, so this project will be on a much larger scope and in a very different style than things I've tried before. I'd like to branch out of my music style a bit and use more synthesized computer instruments, rather than relying mostly on the acoustic/digital piano.
